Switch Nails are designed to fit a wide range of nail shapes and sizes. However, you can also customize your press-on nails to better match your personal preferences.
In this guide, we will go over what to think about when deciding to customize your nails.
You can file or trim your press-on nails to achieve your desired shape or length.
Just like salon-built nails, press-on nails consist of several layers: a base nail, a layer of color or design and a protective top coat. When filing the nail, it is important to work gently.
If you file too aggressively or use a very coarse nail file, the layers may begin to separate. This might not be visible immediately but can cause the color or design to wear down faster over time.
For this reason, we recommend filing slowly and carefully using light strokes.
Step 1
Start by cutting off the bulk of the length.
It’s easier to get the right length if you’re already wearing the nails.
Step 2
Now shape the nail with a file.
Use a coarser grit if you want to remove more length, then switch to a finer grit to smooth everything out.
Work from side to side, and angle your file for more precision. Work gently and carefully.
Step 3
Finish with a top coat and make sure to seal the edges.
This helps protect the tip and keeps your nails looking fresh for longer.

Customizing works best on solid color designs, as their construction is simpler.
Designs with special effects such as glitter or other layered finishes are built differently and may not respond as well to reshaping or heavy filing.
If you want to experiment with shaping, we recommend testing it first on a size you do not plan to wear, so you can see how the nail responds.
You can use regular nail polish, stickers or decorations to customize your press-on nails. Keep in mind that not all brands of nail polish are compatible with usage on press-on nails.
Also important to note that nail polish removers are designed to dissolve color, which may also affect the surface of the press-on nail. We therefore recommend using remover sparingly and avoiding acetone-based removers, as acetone will damage the finish.
If you want to test a remover, try it first on a nail size you do not plan to wear. Whenever you modify your press-on nails, we recommend finishing with a layer of top coat to add extra protection and also dedicating that set to that specific design.
Switch Nails are made from a base nail of recycled ABS plastic with a gel polish layer on top.
It is possible to apply gel polish over your press-on nails, but we recommend testing it first on a size you do not plan to wear. Different brands and formulas may not be compatible with the surface, which can affect the final result.
For this reason, applying gel polish on Switch Nails is not something we officially recommend.
