Understanding our nail designs and effects!

Not all press-on nails are built the same. Different colors, finishes and effects require different layers, which can slightly affect the flexibility and thickness of the nail.
In this guide, you will learn more about how our different nail designs are constructed.

Solid and Shimmer Colors

Solid and shimmer colors consist of two layers: a solid colored base and a protective gel top coat.

These nails are the thinnest and most flexible in our collection.

Nail Art Design

Nails with nail art designs consist of three layers: a solid base color, a nail art layer and a gel top coat. This category includes styles such as French manicures, ombré designs and decorative patterns.

Whenever there is a color change between the base color and the design on top, the nail includes an additional nail art layer. This is what we classify as a nail art design.

Because of the additional layer, these nails are slightly less flexible than solid colors. For these designs, we always recommend applying a layer of top coat to help protect the design and reduce visible wear.

Cat Eye Effect

Cat Eye designs also consist of three layers: a base color, a magnetic Cat Eye effect layer and a gel top coat.

The Cat Eye layer is slightly thicker, which can make the press-on nail feel a bit firmer compared to classic solid colors.

For these designs, we also recommend applying a layer of top coat to help protect the design and reduce visible wear.

Glitter Effect

Glitter designs are also built with three layers: a base color, a layer containing loose glitter and a gel top coat.

Glitter adds extra thickness and structure to the press-on nail. The more glitter a design contains, the thicker and firmer the nail may feel. The surface may also appear slightly more textured compared to smoother finishes.

When applying glitter designs, we recommend paying a little extra attention to the final step of the application process. Take the nail file and, with a few smooth strokes, gently even out the tip of the nail.

We also recommend applying top coat on glitter designs to add extra shine and gloss while helping protect the surface and tip of the nail.

3D Effect

3D effects are added on top of the press-on nails. Because of the additional material, the nail will feel stiffer than the base nail itself.

The 3D elements are less flexible than the nail base and are also the part of the nail that experiences the most wear, since they sit on the surface of the nail.

We recommend applying a layer of top coat on 3D designs to help protect the finish.

Keep in mind that applying multiple layers of top coat may slightly smooth out the 3D effect, depending on how thickly it is applied.

Chrome and Pearl Effect

Chrome designs also consist of three layers, where the chrome effect is placed between the base color and the gel top coat.

Chrome is an extremely thin effect, which means it barely affects the thickness of the press-on nail. However, it can show signs of wear more easily than other finishes.

For this reason, chrome designs are often best suited for occasional wear. It is especially important to apply a protective layer of top coat when wearing chrome finishes.

Semitransparent Shades

Semitransparent shades are designed to create a softer and more natural look, where the natural nail bed can slightly show through.

Examples include shades like Marshmallow, Glazed Donut and Naked & Bold. Light or pastel shades may also be labeled semitransparent, as their lighter pigments allow the natural nail to show through more easily than darker shades.

Full Opacity shades

Full opacity shades contain richer pigments that easily cover the natural nail. These are typically deeper or more intense colors.

Even fully pigmented shades may appear slightly more transparent in thinner areas of the nail, such as near the cuticle, compared to the thicker tip of the nail.

No matter which style you choose, taking proper care of your nails will help them stay beautiful for longer.
Applying a layer of top coat can help protect the design and reduce visible wear, especially on designs with additional layers or special effects.
